Bloomsburg Sweeps Mansfield in Softball

MANSFIELD--The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Mansfield on Friday winning by scores of 3-1 and 5-2.
In the opener, the Huskies scored all their runs in the fourth inning with Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) doubling home two runs and Kristen Kovaleski (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) a third run to back the Ashley Lynn's (Riverside/Danville) pitching. Lynn allowed just five hits, while striking out nine and walking just two. Reed finished 2-4 with two RBI, while Kovaleski was 2-3 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg trailed 1-0 going into the top of the third inning when it erupted for four runs. In the inning, the Huskies took advantage of poor fielding by the Mountaineers who committed four errors in the frame. Reed drove in one run with a single with the remaining three runs scoring on errors.
Reed earned the win pitching, striking out six and walking one.
Bloomsburg, 28-12, 12-5 in the PSAC East, host West Chester on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but has been moved due to the threat of rain.
